Show on the Road, Tampa 

Comprehensive Performing Arts Curriculum

 

Students have the opportunity to take fun, safe, well-rounded classes in the three disciplines of voice, acting and dance taught by qualified instructors. Whether you are looking to get your feet wet, or focus on preparing for college and career, Show on the Road has a class or package for you. Our program focuses on student self-confidence in a loving and engaging environment.
 

Dance 

Our students can take various disciplines of dance to focus on the style, technique and choreography of each genre. There are generally 3 - 4 levels for each genre. The levels are separated by ability and not by age. Students participate in two recitals a year. There are typically no additional costume fees for recital. Students will be required to purchase a uniform and appropriate shoes from Show on the Road. (Adult students will have a recommended, but not required, uniform). 

  • Ballet - Offered at Levels 1-4. Students will be taught classical ballet, with influences from Russian and Italian ballet techniques. Level 3 and 4 students will have the opportunity to be tested for pointe work. 

  • Contemporary - Offered at Level 4. Students will be taught a combination of traditional modern dance and classical ballet and lyrical styles of dance. 

  • Progressing Ballet Technique - A system that provides strength and conditioning specific to dance students! Level 2 and 3 students will get to experience PBT once a month and Level 1 students for 30 minutes in class once a month! Level 4 students can experience PBT once a week at no additional cost when enrolled in Ballet at least twice a week. 

  • Acrobatics - Offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3/4. Students will learn progressions of various tumbling skills which will be choreographed into a dance routine in the recital. 

  • Jazz - Offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3/4. Students will learn turns, kicks, leaps and traditional jazz movements set to contemporary music. 

  • Tap - Offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3/4. Students will learn percussive movements set to traditional jazz, musical theatre and contemporary music. 

  • Hip-hop- Offered at Levels 1/2 and 3/4. Students will learn elements of several different hip-hop dance foundations, that are focused on personal expression and story-telling.

  • Adult classes - We currently offer adult Ballet and Jazz classes. These classes are fun and educational and a great workout for beginner and intermediate students! 


 

Voice 

  • Students can enroll in private one-on-one voice lessons with a qualified teacher. Students concentrate on both technique and musical theatre repertoire. We pride ourselves on teaching musical theatre, speech-level singing vs. classical music. Students will perform in two recitals a year. 


 

Acting and Musical Theatre

  • Acting - Offered at Levels 1-3/4. Students will study monologues, scene work and improvisation. Students may work together to create new pieces, as well as ironing out audition packages and preparing a group piece for the recital. Students will participate in two recitals a year. 

  • Musical Theatre - Offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3/4. Our premiere program, students will participate in two musicals a year. Students will audition for roles within a classic musical and focus on singing, acting and dancing skills concluding in full productions, complete with lighting, sound, costumes and scenery! 

 

Ensembles 

  • Road Crew Performance Ensemble: Two-Day a week Commitment Students who are selected for the performance ensemble will attend weekly performance rehearsals, in addition to jazz and musical theatre classes. Students will perform at all community events, including a performance at Walt Disney World! These students sing, dance and entertain! 

  •  Road Crew Competition Ensemble: Three-Four Day a week Commitment Students who are selected for the competition ensemble will attend weekly competition and performance rehearsals, in addition to jazz, tap, ballet, musical theatre and voice classes. In addition to performances at community events and Walt Disney World show, students will compete in a Song and Dance routine and/or a Broadway Dance routine at 4-5 competitions a year. 

  •  Small Groups/Solos: Students accepted to the competition ensemble will also be available to audition for our small group tap, jazz trio, and/or vocal, Song and Dance routine or dance solos. This placement will be based on level, the 2021 audition and the previous year's classwork if applicable. These students may also need to schedule lessons over the summer and will incur additional tuition and entry fees. 

  •  Mini Ensemble: The mini-ensemble for ages 7-9, follows the same schedule as the performance team and will compete once a year. 

  • Tiny Ensemble: The tiny-ensemble for ages 5-6 follows the same schedule as the performance team and will compete once a year. Tiny’s are only required to enroll in two classes and rehearse on Saturdays. 

  •  Vivace Voice Ensemble: Monday's 7-8pm, Ms. Jessica will be leading a small group of expert singers in show choir-style variations of pop and musical theatre songs. These students will hone their sight-reading skills, harmonies and ability to improvise while learning material to be performed at community events, recitals and even Walt Disney World! (This ensemble can be joined in addition or without Road Crew performance or competition teams. Students must be enrolled in private voice lessons. There is no set age requirement, but suggested ages are 11-16). To audition, submit a 16-bar of an uptempo pop or musical theatre song to info@showontheroadtampa.com or attend a live audition. Early registration deadline is Saturday, May 8, but we are strictly limited to 8 singers.


 

Preschool/Kindergarten Program 

Young Dancers participate in two recitals a year. There are typically no additional costume fees for recitals. Students will be required to purchase a uniform and appropriate shoes from Show on the Road

  • Pre-Ballet - Offered at ages 3-4 and 4-6. Young dancers will be introduced to the positions and structure of classical ballet, with an emphasis on connecting to the music and creative movement. 

  • Broadway Babies - Offered at ages 4-6. Young performers will be introduced to music, dance and theatre in a fun and creative environment. Students will be incorporated into the Jr. Musicals performed twice a year. 

  • Tap and Jazz - Offered at ages 3-4 and 4-6. Young dancers will learn both tap and jazz techniques to upbeat and fun music. Students will perform a tap routine with jazz elements twice a year in the recital. 

 

Enrichment Program

  • Want to bring Show on the Road to your school? Show on the Road offers their musical theatre production class right after school at several school sites for optimal convenience and fun! Students participate in two musicals a year. Stay tuned to see if Show on the Road is offered at your elementary or middle school in the Fall. 

 

Summer Camp

  • Show on the Road offers various summer camps at several locations throughout Tampa Bay. Camps include two-week summer intensives concluding in full musicals with lights, sound, costumes and more. Camps also include themed-weeks such as Princess, Descendants, On-Camera Acting, using various dance, music and acting disciplines.
